Hello,

I wrote a small webmail framework for WebObjects.
I can send to you if you want.

This is a bit off the topic but if you are interested in hooking into
the backend processing of mail (like sendmail but much easier), I've
found the Apache JAMES project to be quite powerful and very extensible
with many features. Mailets in the JAMES world are what servlets are to
the servlet/JSP world. Take a peek here for more information:

That's unreal. Thanks for the link.

As for an imap adaptor, wouldn't there be a bit of overhead as you
would have to have a separate connection to the imap server for each
user who logs into the web mail? I don't have a huge amount of
knowledge exactly how the context and channel can be configured so I
may be off track here.

If you had 1000 users, then there would be 1000 separate connections to
the imap server.

Dunno. Wouldn't that depend on what it should do? And anyway: the
whole schema Account<->>Mailboxes<->>Mails<->>Attachements is
handles by JavaMail anyway, so it should be rather easy to create a
read-only EOF thingy (look for PAs infamous JavaFSAdaptorCode for an
example).

Do you have a link? Google returned nothing.
