Thanks very much for your comments Chuck.
The open source Wiki http://www.wodev.com looks like it could be just
what I am looking for.
I like the look of Twiki also, and that includes a blog.
I take your point on EOF and p2p.
I would like to include some Digital Rights Management and have been
watching with interest Sun initiative http://
www.openmediacommons.org/ . I am hoping this might also be able to be
integrated into my app as it is java based.
Cheers
Pete

Hi folks,
I have been slowly learning WO and java, although I am not a
developer by any stretch of the imagination. I have also been
researching a number of other development approaches. I like a lot
of aspects of WO but am not sure if it can solve all my problems.
I am looking to develop a collaborative knowledge management
application that has the following components:
1) it is web based and public
2) it has an e-commerce component
3) it has membership authentication and tracking of editing and
revisions
4) it integrates with a database that can accept uploads of rich
media as well as text
(So far, so good. From my limited knowledge I can see that WO can
handle most of this.)
And now the other stuff ...
5) Integration with a wiki, such as Twiki. Is it possible to
seamlessly blend this collaborative app with WebObjects?
Transactions could also take place.
Possible, yes. Easy? I don't know. There is also http://
www.wodev.com which is itself an open source Wiki implemented in WO.
6) I assume that if that were possible, the site could also
include a blog?
I don't see why not. Jon Rentzch made a blog in 15 minutes (or
some ridiculous amount of time) in WO: http://rentzsch.com/woWebLog
7) I would like to make this a hybrid architecture that includes
peer to peer, and have read with interest about JXTA. Has anyone
had experience trying to mix WO with a distributed database?
That depends on how you use it. EOF is not going to like part of
its object space coming and going. If you using something else to
interface it, I don't forsee any specific problems.
