The other parts of deployment (JavaMonitor and wotaskd) are just
plain old Java WO apps. They run anywhere. It is strictly a
question of legality (hopefully to soon be clarified by Apple) and
support (not any more from Apple).

Wonder still maintains a Apache 1.3 and 2.0 branch of WebObjects

traditionally using standard unix tools.

Here's how I see it - please correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm assuming that it's not possible to do a traditional WebObjects
deployment on non apple hardware going forward (wotaskd missing, wo
adaptor src code no more etc.).
- client wants to deploy on non apple hardware - very common for
enterprise customers
(linux boxes or big sun iron (4 way V440 or the sort))
- develop using Xcode on OS 10.4 with WebObjects 5.3 - free
- purchase a new copy of 10.4 Tiger Server (one of the newer
packages)
for $ 499
- grab WO 5.3 deployment license key out of Tiger Server box and
place
Tiger Server on shelf
- create a .war file with Xcode on 10.4 using the WO deployment
license
key from the tiger server box
(is it possible to do traditional deployment on non-apple
platforms
going forward?)
- deploy .war file on non-apple hardware on Weblogic, Websphere,
Jboss
or Tomcat

Ken,
I was just emailed this off-list ...... here is snipped bits.
Download
the update and use Pacifist to open the .pkg to get the license
document if you want the full thing.
I guess this update license as i stands right now does seem to
restrict WO 5.3 to the same Apple-labeled computer as OS X Tiger
Server.

This should be pretty easy to answer from someone who has the

The only problem is, Tiger Server was boxed and shipped before this
announcement, and 5.3 will have a different deployment license from
previous releases... I think we just have to wait.
