Also, this WYSWIG thing is totally overrated and mainly only useful for beginners, as you see exactly nothing once your components get a bit more complex.

Anjo, I mostly agree with you but I'd like to offer this thought:

When I first worked through Apple's WO tutorial, the dragging to create bindings was Just So Cool that it was the carrot that kept me going through some of the harder, more confusing parts. I kept thinking that once I got the hang of it, building a WO app was going to be so much *fun*. Of course it didn't take me long to figure out that it's overrated, like you said, and not that useful for anything complex. But I think having it available is good for new users, and clearly there are at least some experienced users who like it.

I'm not suggesting you run out and build this yourself, but I'd like to encourage those who like this functionality to consider it. Even if it only worked f or simple stuff, to be used as a teaching tool, I think it would be beneficial.

I have to 2nd this from the standpoint of someone who needed to learn WO from "ground zero." I was actually not a java developer and I was not a web developer. That still has me at a disadvantage to many WO developers. And I understand that there is a steep learning curve with WO that isn't easily addressed. WebObjects also has the "flare" of being an Apple technology now - people want to use it to support Apple. I have to agree with Bernard and Janine that learning to use WO has been made less difficult because of WOBuilder. So, I do believe that "entrance" into this arena with other tools would be more difficult.

I've fortunately received training from two Apple engineers. I was trained on XCode and WOBuilder. I understand the complaints about them - but they're home. I once installed Eclipse/WOLips because I was using Practical WebObjects as a reference. I have to say that installing and grasping Eclipse/WOLips was very difficult since I don't have a background in java development and packaging. I guess I have lots of reading to do.

I also agree with a previous poster that developers embracing WO sells Apple hardware - maybe not enough I guess. However many units it is, less developers may embrace WO now. I am happy to see that the WO session attracted a lot of people though.
