I couldn't agree more. As a recent convert to the mac, it's the only
feature I sorely miss. Would it really be that hard for Apple to
implement at least a basic key sequence to get keyboard focus to
the menu? It already supports arrow key manuevering once you
click a menu with the mouse. (Someone please correct me if
I'm wrong...but I've not yet discovered any such key sequence).
This goes right along with the problem of tabbing through a
web form and it *skips* right over drop down items.
Actually, I've just discovered that there is a keyboard-access-to-menus
method, but it's not enabled by default, and it isn't very good either.
In Keyboard Preferences, enable "Turn on full keyboard access". Then,
Ctrl+F2 will transfer focus to the menu, and you can navigate around
with the cursor keys.
Anyone have this working on a TiBook? I can't seem to make it work. Is it
application controlled - ie it depends on application support?
It still doesn't respond to other keys (i.e. there's no equivalent to
the underlined characters in Windows menus) but it's better than
nothing.
Max.
