Jacque,
Here are a few resources I found very useful.
<http://homepage.mac.com/sao1/fink/>
<http://www.lists.apple.com/mailman/listinfo/x11-users>
<http://www.misplaced.net/fom/X11/>
Take some time and read through each and experiment with the different
tips and examples. It takes several reviews to get what is going on (at
least it did for me).
Open Office, gnumeric, Abiword are all available and integrate well
with OS X and Aqua.
Enjoy,
Craig

Thank you to Daniel, Dominic and Gareth for some helpful information
for newcomers. I have been lurking here for a week or so, hoping to
learn and understand more. Marie's note has given me courage to ask
for recommendations to learn how to use x11 from the ground up. Can
anyone recommend an "x11 for Dummies" book?!
Once I've installed x11, will I be able to use Open Office (I was
dismayed when I read the "2006" figure on Macintouch)? Gnumeric?
Abiword? Do I have to download the x11 SDK (Software Developer's Kit,
my fellow newbies) in order to install these things?
Once again, thanks to those who contribute.
Jacque (not French, my parents just liked the name)
