When X11 starts up and starts an xterm window, or if I launch another xterm window, the first line always says:

You are probably using the tcsh startup files in /usr/share/tcsh/examples. There is a well-known (well, well-known to everyone except Apple, it seems; in any case they haven't fixed it in 6 months) bug in /usr/share/tcsh/examples/aliases, where this variable is used without first testing whether it is set.

Where is the TERM_PROGRAM variable supposed to be defined? termcap? The man page is silent on the issue.

It is set by Terminal.app, but otherwise undefined.
