If you have crash catcher enabled (from the preferences settings of
/Applications/Console) then you check to see what crashed, X11, Window
Server, LoginWindow, Finder, etc.
These logs are usually put into ~/Library/Logs/CrashCatcher

X11-apple was running. In the past I've had screen flashes like that
with XDarwin, always followed by an XDarwin crash. This time there was
no X11 crash. I'm wondering if instead the tight integration with the
OS brought the machine down.
But unless other people on the list have had such a problem while
running X11-apple, it could have been anything. (I was trying
unsuccessfully to map samba drives at the time.)
