I've been wondering about this too. I'd like it to start an xterm, but
one with some command line options.
I've been wondering why suddenly so many people are so intent on using
xterm. Xterm is really a very primitive application with a virtually
unusable default configuration.
It is like using twm as a window manager. No one in their right mind will
do the latter, and no one in their right mind should use xterm if an
alternative like Apple's Terminal.app is available.
Can Apple's terminal use X bitmap fonts, necessary for some tty
applications? I've also had subtle troubles with color terminal emulation
in Terminal.app that are not present in XTerm. Has anyone else had such
issues?
OTOH, I actually often run aterm, a trimmed down version of xterm without
all the stuff that 99% of the world doesn't use. Half the memory and all
the goodness.
OTOOH, I rarely run a terminal at all, beyond M-x shell or M-x term in
Emacs that is.
Best,
Joe
