In reference to problems with X11 with multiple users:
In addition to the removal of " /tmp/.X0-lock" and '/tmp/.X11-unix"
files solution, I encountered a problem when a user had limited access
to applications under his account.
In OS X, "System Preferences->Accounts->Capabilities" was set to "Use
only these applications".
X11 was added to the application list but would not function properly
until "Use only these applications" was unchecked.
I think that the window manager needed to be added to the applications
list, but I could see no way to access it from the OS X GUI side to add
it to the applications list. There might be a command line method to
do this, though.
Anyhow, after un-checking ""Use only these applications" in the user's
"Capabilities", X11 worked fine for the user.
Anyone have ideas how retain limited application access for specific
users, and still let them use use X11?

I have a Mac where I installed apple x11 and it works just fine for
me. Another person also uses this Mac. When i went to show her the
wonders of xemacs, x11.app would not launch from her account. clicking
on the dock icon the triangle appeared but nothing happened. same with
double clicking on x11.app itself. /usr/X11R6/bin is in her path and i
don't think anything is odd with permissions. any suggestions? i don't
see any difference between being logged into her account or mine,
except i installed X11 in the first place.
