JS,

There are already many features in OS X which are off by default, but which, through natural human curiosity, cause substantial problems to EU.

Does adding one more feature to the "many features" which "cause substantial problems"
lead to a significantly greater volume of negative feedback? Probably not...who uses X11 anyway?
The masses? I don't think so.

Examples:
Accessibility under OS X. I field soo many calls where people turn this "feature" on, and then freak. Who do they call? Me.
Apache: People read a little of the 'net, tweak out their httpd.conf file, and 2 things happen. 1) after the tweaks, web sharing will not start. 2) after an update web-sharing will not start. They call for help.

Believe me, it goes on and on......

I think its good that people choose to explore and learn. One day those same people may be providing
you with the help.

This leads me to think that Apple, who provides support for these products, would have to field calls and answer questions as well. Average EU have enough trouble remembering where their default download folder is, let alone what desktop did they leave X application or Y file etc...

However, the average EU still does use the download function...even though they may have trouble.

Just my 2 cents. Remember this is, to an extent, at this time, UNIX for the masses.
Maybe it will change. Hell, I would love to see an OS X "Power user" distribution.
With X11 pre-installed, dev tools pre-installed, all directories visible (although maybe not accessible). Tweakable etc.....

If memory serves me correctly, back to System 7, Apple has never offered an integrated virtual desktop, even though numerous third party plugins and applications have been around to provide virtual desktops.

Having a larger desktop environment may well
exacerbate the problem of desktop clutter...then don't have
a desktop at all (-:

Contrary to your request, I don't want to see a so called "Power user"
distribution...it will probably cost more for the EU.

I just want to see the best X11 app ever...including a virtual desktop
that's so easy to use, even the EU will love every bit (and byte) of it.

Maybe the desktop can be put into the dock bar (the Apple menu could contain
a minimization button)...would that be simple?
Then we could have any number of desktops open at once...dragging windows
between desktops could be done if the dock bar desktop icon was interactive...
...opening a desktop from the dock bar could automatically dock the existing desktop.
...somebody stop me.

Cheers,

--Aaron.
