Installed X11, now what?

I installed X11 and would like to run KDE and other
apps, but I do not know what version to download or
how to load them in X11, I'm a novice, have never
used the terminal window but I want to become familiar
with UNIX and would. I don't know where to find
these files I would apprecate all the help you can
give, thank you
