With the advent of OS X, Apple has been making a strong push to embrace the
scientific community. Scientific apps have traditionally been UNIX-based,
which means X11. If existing applications are to be ported to the OS X,
the easiest route is to have a reasonable X11 implementation, rather than
require that apps port to Aqua/Quartz.
This is exactly what Apple has done with X11.app. Yeah, there are some
rough edges, but they're working them out. That's part of what this list
is about. Haroon and friends (sorry, don't remember all of your names) are
very responsive to bug reports.
So I believe this is a perfect example of Apple answering the needs of its
customers, in a very direct way.
Kudos, Apple! As a scientific researcher, I appreciate your efforts!
