It is possible to run Pooch (http://www.daugerresearch.com) on a number of Macs
under OS X.
You can start X11, or the Terminal application, as Pooch processes. However, none
of these will cause the command-line command 'hostinfo' to return the number of
processors actually involved in the Pooch setup.
I would be interested to know whether X11 could be developed in a way that it
would, possibly teaming up with software such Pooch, allow for affordable
multiprocessor computing. There is a range of software products that are
essentially able to take advantage of more then one processor; e.g., IDL 5.6/ Mac
OS X by Research Systems for visualization of data.
Thank you very much,
