If the statement is made anywhere, then you would be correct in asking

This list's purpose is to support Apple's X11 implementation. It is
not
this list's purpose to support other X Window implementations. And I'm
pretty sure that everyone on this list already understands this rule.
I'm well aware of the purpose of this mailing list. And I'm sure most
people here are well aware that X11 refers to the X Window system in
general. I just thought it was a point worth pointing out for the
newbies. But I guess there will always be people that think they know
everything and will argue against even the most basic of facts.
: Wrongly refering to Apple's X server as 'X11' only serves to confuse
: people who are new to the X window system.
Those new to the X Window System are using Apple's X11 implementation.
Really? All of them huh? I'd be interested to know how you are aware of
that.
Besides, people do distinguish between the two implementations by
calling them either X11 or XonX.
But that's my point, they should not do that. Apple's X server and XonX
are both 'X11'. The only reason Apple call their bundle 'X11.app' is
because it is an X11 server, not because they wanted to call their
product 'X11'.
I've played with the X Window System
for over a decade, and I've never heard of the term "X11" to refer to
the X Window System until Apple's implementation came out.
You're either a troll or you have no idea what you're talking about. Go
to http://www.x.org/ and do some reading, you'll find the term 'X11'
used rather a lot. As I've already said, X11 refers to version 11 of
the X Window System (which existed long before Apple's version of it
did). The precise current version is X11R6.6.
