Subject: using the X11 version of emacs
Ok, this is probably a basic question, so if someone could kindly point
me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.
I have d/l'd and installed the latest release of Apple's X11, and the
SDK for it so that I could build from source if needed, and installed
emacs 21.something using FinkCommander.
How do I fire up the gui version of emacs? emacs from the CLI just
runs
it in the terminal screen, not an entirely bad thing, but since I'm
trying to do this in X11, obviously, I'm trying for the graphic
version.
What am I missing here?
Things I would check:
that you are getting the fink emacs
that DISPLAY is set
[ptw@titania ptw 16:14:35]$ which emacs
/sw/bin/emacs
[ptw@titania ptw 16:16:05]$ echo $DISPLAY
:0.0
I hope Apple will start including an x-enabled emacs in their standard
distribution now that they are providing X11.
