x11 crashes within seconds

Hi all,
I am having a problem with X11 Version 1.0. I installed this version from
the installer CDs and now when I launch the program it crashes within
seconds. It does not start a terminal either. I downloaded and installed the
same version from the website with the identical results.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
