Considering the fact that BBEdit worksheets and, before that, Apples MPW programming environment treat the enter key as an execute command and process a return as though it was a text editor just starting another line of something you might choose to execute later. . .
What you describe sounds like a bug that ought to be reported.
Enter is not Return. They should send different keycodes. If Enter and
Return were to send the same keycodes, then that would be a bug. This is X
not MacOS (afterall). It's bad enough that both shift keys send the same
code (or at least they appear to on a PowerBook Ti).
