I don't believe that the X libraries depend on too much, if anything,
that apple won't be providing as 64-bit in Tiger. The problem is that
they are not intending to provide a full 64-bit environment. The kernel
itself is 32-bit, with 64-bit extensions (implemented in a very dirty
way, I might add). The website says that it will provide core libraries
(or something like that, I'm not looking at it now), so I wouldn't
expect all, or even a decent amount, to be 64-bit. Remember, 64-bit
libraries do NOT work on 32-bit machines, so both must be included.
That means that you're doubling the size of the library binary (by
having two copies). I doubt that X11 is on that list. I wish it were.
That said, there is a patch to the Xorg cvs that add's apple's open
source modifications to X11 so that it builds X11.app (which works just
like the apple version) from the Xorg tree. I much prefer this as it
makes sure that I have a recent X, and keeps the simplicity of Apple's
design. This, as long as its dependancies are available as 64-bit, is
probably your best bet. :-)

Is there any expectancy for having the X11 runtime libraries compiled
for 64-bit pointer support? I realize it's not even possible in Mac OX
10.3, but supposedly will be in Mac OS 10.4. But to compile a program
for full 64-bit, all the libraries it links to have to be compiled for
64-bit.
Is there a better list to ask this question on?
