--hoi,
This weekend I wanted to make one box pure Darwin8. Also I wanted to
install xfree86.
So I read through the web and downloaded xfree86 4.3.0 and 4.5.0 as
binary and source.
Anyhow, compiling the sources and or installing the precompiled binaries
didn't work. I never tried this on Darwin7 cause I was using a console
on an aqua installed machine. Also (afair) in Darwin7 there was a
precompiled xfree86 in the .iso - but I don't recall if I installed it or if it
was in the installer.
Then I read through darwin.cf config file and changed accordingly to the
comments DarwinQuartzSupport to no and recompiled.
Anyhow, startx does not start xfree86/DarwinServer. In some cases
everything was built, except X.
What am I doing wrong ? Am I missing something obvious ?
I don't have fink installed, neither DarwinPorts. Nowhere is mentioned
that these are a must for xfree86.
So I'd like to install them after the window server cause they seem to
be secondary neccassery to me.
thx,
