Can someone comment on the general state of optimization, then, in
GCC4.0?
Is there some kind of auto optimization, and is non-support of
explicit optimization a problem waiting to be fixed?

Fink's version of XEmacs doesn't seem to build under Tiger on my G5.
Is DarwinPorts a better way to get XEmacs and Emacs? Is it possible

asking for library conflicts, etc.?

I build 21.5.b20 regularly from cvs. I discovered on Tiger I must not
use any explicit optimization, not even -Os. I have seen other ported
applications that break the same way under Tiger or gcc4.0.
Perhaps a minor change to the compiler flags would fix the fink build
(if that is user configurable).
