Fink's version of XEmacs doesn't seem to build under Tiger on my G5.
Is DarwinPorts a better way to get XEmacs and Emacs? Is it possible to
use both Fink and DarwinPorts on the same computer, or is this asking
for library conflicts, etc.?

I build 21.5.b20 regularly from cvs. I discovered on Tiger I must not
use any explicit optimization, not even -Os. I have seen other ported
applications that break the same way under Tiger or gcc4.0.
Perhaps a minor change to the compiler flags would fix the fink build
(if that is user configurable).
Hmm, I just built the xemacs in Fink's 10.4-transitional/stable tree. No
build problem, and it seems to work correctly, too. It uses -O3 as
compiler flag, for example:
gcc -c -g -O3 -Wall -Wno-switch -Winline -Wmissing-prototypes
-Wsign-compare -fno-strict-aliasing -Wshadow -Wpointer-arith
-I/sw/include -Demacs -I. -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I/usr/X11R6/include insdel.c
This is version 21.4.15; perhaps these older versions are easier to compile?
Larry, I remember from 2 years ago that you had problems compiling
Fink's xemacs then. Did you ever succeed in the meantime?
