DISPLAY weirdness
DISPLAY weirdness

I have a very odd problem with setting the DISPLAY variable for a
particular user on a Tiger system. For most users on my machine, I
can set the DISPLAY in terminal to localhost:0.0, and run an X11 app
like xclock, and it will work fine. But for one particular user, I
get an error stating that it cannot connect to localhost:0.0. What is
strange (to me) is that if I set the DISPLAY for this user to :0.0,
it works fine. (Note that this is not a fast user switching problem;
I do make sure the correct display number is used)
Can anyone suggest what might be going wrong? Why would localhost not
be correctly interpreted for one particular user? (Note that a 'host
localhost' returns the loopback address of 127.0.0.1, so it should
not be a DNS problem)
