It does. Sorry for spreading the FUD.
I double-clicked on the PPC X11 app (xfig) from the Finder, and it
lauched X11.app and then xfig just fine.
I can't remember what app I tried before that didn't work, but maybe
it was >G4 specific.
Anyway, Mr. Howarth, I tried Sparky on my iMac Intel, and it launched
just fine. I have no idea how to use the software, so I couldn't
test it beyond that. Chimera's web site sez that they have a
Universal binary now. It looks like to might be safe in buying Intel
Macs.
I don't know if you use Matlab or Maple, but they definitely don't
work on Intel Macs. Just in case you wanted to know.

This should "just work". The kernel will automatically run ppc
programs under Rosetta. To see this for yourself do something like
the following on an intel mac:
$ lipo -thin ppc -output /tmp/xterm.ppc /usr/X11R6/bin/xterm
$ file /tmp/xterm.ppc
/tmp/xterm.ppc: Mach-O executable ppc
$ /tmp/xterm.ppc
and up will pop an xterm window running as a translated ppc program
talking to the i386 X server. If you find any X11 programs that
don't run correctly, please file bug reports,

Peter,
It would be nice if Apple could kludge together a way to
allow X11.app to be more savvy for Leopard and load the
appropriate architecture's libraries for a given binary.
On one hand, by the time Leopard arrives the need will be
much less, but on the other it would be a neat feature to
have for X11.app.
