This is normal, the package on the Apple site is for Mac OSX 10.3.

self and matlab could not find it. I also tried from the apple soft ware dvd came with the system. That too couldn't solve my problem. As I read some where I should find X11.app in my utilities as soon as i could install it successfully. Unfortunately I could not find any such.

You have to find the X11User.pkg on your system DVD and install it. It may be hidden in some folder like "Optional installs" or something, but it is definitely there.
