Newbie question about installing X11 on OS X 10.4.8

I am a fairly new user to the OS X platform. I am trying to install X11 however the only way I have discovered so far is to do a fresh install and choose the custom installation with X11 selected. When I purchased my PowerBook from the Apple store last year they apparently didn't seem it was necessary to install it. Does anybody have any suggestions or places where I might look for information on how to install X11 without having to do a re-install of the operating system?
I appreciate any help and/or information anybody could provide!!! Thanks!
