Inquiry/Issue

So I've read here and elsewhere that one of the advantages of the new X11 is that I can just double-click on my XWindows applications and X11 will automagically launch for me. Great. Except that in my experience this means it launches Terminal and executes it via the command line. This leaves an unnecessary Terminal program and window, which will kill the XWindows program if closed. Is there a way around this? If not, I would suggest it is not an advantage or improvement.
