Whups; that actually won't get you anything even if it's working due
to quoting issues - $DISPLAY is expanded before sshd has a chance to
set it. Try this instead:

ssh -Y remotehost 'bash --norc --noprofile -c "echo $DISPLAY"  '

note the extra quotes around the whole bash command line.
