I run MacOSX 10.5.2 and X11 2.2.0.1. Instead of Quartz, I use Ion-3 as
my X11 window manager (see http://modeemi.fi/~tuomov/ion/).
The problem I describe below is new with 2.2.0 and 2.2.0.1 and has not
been there with all previous Versions of X11 on Leopard (<= 2.1.4).
The window manager Ion grabs the whole desktop and allows me to tile it
into frames. Each frame can hold several windows of X11 applications.
When I open a non-X11 application, e.g. TextEdit.app, the TextEdit
window opens up in front of my X11 windows and has the focus. Now I
move the mouse only within the TextEdit window that hovers over my X11
windows. Although I do not leave the TextEdit window, as soon as I move
the mouse into another X11 window that is behind the TextEdit window,
the X11 window gets painted over the TextEdit window. The TextEdit
window still has the focus, though (text I type ends up in the TextEdit
window). This happens with all non-X11 applications that float in front
of X11 windows. Practically, this makes using non-X11 apps impossible.
Fiddling with X11 preference "Focus Follows Mouse" and such doesn't
change the behaviour.
Hope that someone has an idea what might be going on here. Please let
me know if you need more information.
NB: The other bug I reported to this list a couple of weeks ago (see
thread called "Cmd-q gets through") is still there: Using Cmd-q to close
an Application leads to a q that gets send to the X11 application that
gets the focus afterwards. Might this be connected? In both cases X11
apps do not have the focus but receive the events anyway.
Thanks and keep up the good work!
