On 10.3.9, which is as far as I can go and still use my SE/30 file server. . .
It helps to avoid any negative coordinates in the Macintosh gworld. That means arrange the monitors so that all graphical space to the right and below the upper left corner of the monitor that has the menus.
Be especially sure that there is some phosphor that represents small positive numbers. I like to use four monitors with one above the center of three that are below. With the menu bar on the center lower monitor there is a large void at the upper left of the gworld. X11 apps that I try to run from a Linux box try to throw a window and the coordinates get converted to a new zero point at the upper left where there is no picture tube.
Using the geometry keyword helps but getting the values correct when they can be in either pixel or character units is a PITA. Remember - positive Y is down in the gworld.
