Hey, all,
For the last few revisions of the OS, I've had a problem with
external monitors and X11 -- I run X11 on a MacBook Pro with a
1600x1200 external monitor attached. If I attach the external
monitor (which gets the menu bar when attached) then X11 ignores all
keystrokes and mouse clicks when the cursor outside the area of the
laptop's built-in monitor (as displaced to the large external
monitor). This means, for example, that if I am drawing with GIMP
or Inkscape, I can't make a mark outside the upper-left two thirds
of my external monitor. Likewise, long menu bars and large windows
thoroughly confuse X11. The workaround is to restart X11 (and
therefore ditch all my open windows) every time I plug in the monitor.
Currently, the X server has a limitation in that it cannot dynamically
resize the fb. We can probably work around that by making a very-
large fb and just using part of it, but then we have an issue of "what
happens when we have 3 really large monitors" ... so I'm pretty much
waiting for the dynamic-fb-resize patch to hit the X server before I
tackle this issue.
Do others have this problem? I've filed bug reports with Apple, but
that is about as effective as shouting down a deep hole.
I understand that perception, since I myself used to feel the same way
before coming to Apple. There is an open bug about this in my queue,
but other issues have been much more important. That is why it has
not been addressed yet.
Additionally, where are you filing bug reports at Apple? You should
be filing them at http://bugreport.apple.com. I don't see any from
you in our bug reporting system. Did you file it with a different
account than the one associated with this email address? Can you
please tell me the radar number of your issue.
Thanks,
Jeremy
