That doesn't sound like a great idea, as it is likely to get
overwritten by future updates, surely?
that is true... I didn't say it was a foolproof option... just an
option ;)
and/or set the values in ~/.Xresources. Search the mailing list
for the info I provided the last time this was brought up or if you
cant find it, let me know, and I'll try to dig it up and add it to
the FAQ.
A search of the list for either "dpi" or "display resolution" turned
up nothing useful...
It seems, after googling, that the thing to do ought to be to put
Xft.dpi: 133
in .Xresources, but this still results in X11 starting up and
reporting the resolution is 96dpi.
Sorry, maybe it was on xquartz-dev then =/
Perhaps it *would* be a good idea to write an FAQ on this.
Feel free to edit the FAQ. It's world writable:

What should it set it to? As mentioned before, there is no correct
value for multi-monitor setups that have different dpi for each
display.
This last argument does not seem like a good reason not to set it to
the "best" value. I'd suggest
- if there is just one display, then the value for that display
- if multiple displays, then the value for the "main" display (where
main is chosen in some reasonable way, e.g. largest display, boot
display, etc)
This should give better results than just leaving it at some
arbitrary value like 75dpi or 96dpi which is pretty likely to be
wrong.
Yes, it would be better... Due to the volume this is receiving, I'm
tempted to do something like this for rc4 to just test the water... I
was just going to leave it hard coded until "the right" fix was found
later...
On another score, perhaps Apple should also be distributing fonts at
133dpi resolution for X11?
I have no control over such things...
