Yeah, I got rid of the fork() before the execve()... Can you open a
bug report at xquartz.macosforge.org, and I'll be sure to put the fork
back in for this use.

You need to go to the Preferences in Finder and double-click
org.x.X11.plist and edit line starting with app_to_run by adding '&'

I'm using Leopard and XQuartz 2.1.3 apple9. I don't know if what I'm
going
to describe happened in previous releases (can't remember).
When starting X11 with open (open -a x11) from the shell, the
command did
the job (X11 is effectively started), but the shell didn't get the
control
back (open doesn't stop). Note that open behave correctly with any
other
app.
Any hint ?
