As do I... that's how I have my profile, bashrc, etc setup here... I
actually go a step farther and use the exec bit to determine whether to
source it or not. That way, you just need to remove exec rather than
moving it to some separate "disabled" directory.
You and I think alike, and I must compliment you on such a wonderful
idea ;) ... I'm going to have to implement it.
Actually, the new Fink xinitrc package uses a similar structure:
A script /sw/bin/xinitrc.sh that sources files dropped into the
directory /sw/etc/xinitrc.d/. I currently see there:
/sw/etc/xinitrc.d
/sw/etc/xinitrc.d/20dispconf.sh
/sw/etc/xinitrc.d/20xfontpath.sh
/sw/etc/xinitrc.d/73apps.sh
