I'm thinking that all xinitrc changes ought to be made by intelligent

Well, if you personalize anything inside /usr/X11, any subsequent
SoftwareUpdate or installation of a new Xquartz update may clobber your
effort without questions asked and without much documentation. The Fink
flavor of clobbering has at least the advantage of asking permission,
documenting what it does, and backing your personalized version of
xinitrc up instead of simply overwriting it.
