Inspired by your responses, I found a box with kmail 1.7.1 from kde 3.3.1-9el4. This version of kmail is not much better. However, I just noticed that the problem is only in the window which lists the messages and where the different mailboxes are listed, but not in the text of the message, which scrolls correctly. Does that point in any particular direction? Testing out a few other apps: kwrite 4.3 has scroll problems the file browser for opening a file but not in the text itself. korganizer has scroll problems in the to-do list. While trying out other apps, I found that oocalc and oowriter will not open at all. I get the splash screen, then the window pops up for a split second before it crashes. That also used to work in OS X 10.4.*. Maybe that's been fixed in the newest X11 patches. I'm not so worried about that though, because it's mostly the email I have to access remotely.

I don't have pan installed anywhere. Is there another gtk2 app I could try? I can run gtk-demo and that seems to work OK.

All our linux boxes here run RedHat Enterprise 4 or 5. I just tried kpm on both new and old machines with the same scroll problems. One machine is using kde 3.3.1-9.el4 and the other is using kde 3.1.3-6.12.

So, from your responses, it sounds like the problem is more on the linux box than on the Mac. I'm just surprised that this stuff all worked with the X11.app in OS X10.4 and broke when I installed Leopard.

Yeah, ditto... works for me on my Gentoo box (kde 3.5.8's kmail). I doubt it is kmail's (or even kde or qt)'s fault here. Can you try a gtk2 application (like pan maybe) to see if it has a similar issue? If it works fine, try another qt application (maybe opera)... try to hone in in what is really causing it. Also, what version of libX11, qt, kde are on that system?

I have a problem with X11 that I haven't seen others report, so I don't know if it's unique to me. I have a remote RedHat linux box on which I do computing and it also receives email. When I run kmail on the remote machine and pop the window up on my mac, scrolling is all messed up like it's not doing the window update properly. If I minimize the window and bring it back, the update is properly processed and the window is restored. This was not a problem for X11 before I upgraded to Leopard. This is the last remaining regret I have about upgrading. Any ideas? Has anyone else seen this?

I just tried Kmail from a debian box to my X11 2.1.2-rc Leopard laptop, and saw no such issues. KMail was version 1.7.2 BTW. Sorry!
