Well, the folders list scrolled correctly for me.

I'll try openoffice when I get home (I don't have osx here where I am

I'm not saying that it is a linux problem rather than a Mac problem, but
I suspect that it's maybe an inconsistency problem. 10.4 had old X11
and the linux box you have has old X11... My gentoo box has new X11 and
my osx box has new X11. I suspect that if I tried sshing to your
machine from my gentoo box, I might have the same scroll problems which
means it's an X11 issue, not just OSX or Linux. There might've been
some client/server communication change at some point that caused this
issue that hasn't been noticed because (1) it works for most clients and
(2) most people don't use an X client from a dated system to connect to
a new X server on their current system.
Could you try updating libX11 and maybe qt and kdelibs on those boxes?
