Hi Owen,
What can I say, it works great! I thought I was up to date, but I
guess not. Not only does scrolling work now, but it does it
smoothly. Kudos to all you who are fixing it up, it's a huge help.
Thanks!

Hi David:
Everyone's assuming, quite reasonably, that you're running the
latest fixed version of X11 for Leopard, rather than the one on the
install disk which has many problems. Is this in fact the case?

Inspired by your responses, I found a box with kmail 1.7.1 from kde
3.3.1-9el4. This version of kmail is not much better. However, I
just noticed that the problem is only in the window which lists the
messages and where the different mailboxes are listed, but not in
the
text of the message, which scrolls correctly. Does that point in
any
particular direction?
Well, the folders list scrolled correctly for me.
I found that oocalc and oowriter will not open
at all. I get the splash screen, then the window pops up for a
split
second before it crashes. That also used to work in OS X 10.4.*.
Maybe that's been fixed in the newest X11 patches.
I'll try openoffice when I get home (I don't have osx here where I am
now).
I don't have pan installed anywhere. Is there another gtk2 app I
could try? I can run gtk-demo and that seems to work OK.
So, from your responses, it sounds like the problem is more on the
linux box than on the Mac. I'm just surprised that this stuff all
worked with the X11.app in OS X10.4 and broke when I installed
Leopard.
I'm not saying that it is a linux problem rather than a Mac
problem, but
I suspect that it's maybe an inconsistency problem. 10.4 had old X11
and the linux box you have has old X11... My gentoo box has new X11
and
my osx box has new X11. I suspect that if I tried sshing to your
machine from my gentoo box, I might have the same scroll problems
which
means it's an X11 issue, not just OSX or Linux. There might've been
some client/server communication change at some point that caused
this
issue that hasn't been noticed because (1) it works for most
clients and
(2) most people don't use an X client from a dated system to
connect to
a new X server on their current system.
Could you try updating libX11 and maybe qt and kdelibs on those
boxes?
