That was just a suggestion I made in the thread, Ambrose, as an
attempted compromise. I don't think it's what Martin wants.

This. The Apple developers inform us that upstream xmkmf is broken,
and dead at X.org. But out here in the trenches, I still see it on my
fresh-as-daisies Ubuntu Hardy Heron install. Even if I completely
uninstall and reinstall all things X, xmkmf comes back with the rest
of the dev tools. And it even works, at least well enough to build
the few things I've built manually.
