Looks like there is another X server running on the machine, being
display :0. It may be unrelated to your problem, but slightly
suspect.
Thanks, but it if there is, I believe it is a crashed one from a
previous attempt.
I have never had problems of this kind with all the earlier releases
than 2.3.0, and have no reason to believe I am running any other X
server.
Also, in order to rule out any problems arising from your personal
setup, you could try logging in as the Guest user (assuming you
haven't disabled it) and running X11 there.
Doesn't everyone disable the guest, for security reasons? :-)
