No, it's very much alive. It *was* dead, but it's turned into this
Gentoo Prefix thing, to install a Gentoo user environment on *any* Linux
(useful when your clients insist on ancient Dead Rat installations) and
OS X and Solaris and potentially other unixes.

I have it installed on my Mac. It works well. It's still relatively
early days for the project and a bit of a bitch to set up, so unless
you're insatiably curious or already know you prefer the Gentoo way of
things (which was my case), I'd say stick with MacPorts.

But actually the OS X version tends to be the most developed, I think
because it's the most popular.
