Jeremy, as an FYI, I noticed in this thread here:

...that on the day 10.5.3 was released, a lot of people in that thread
seemed to end up with an icon-less and different version of
/A/U/X11.app than I had after updating to 10.5.3 (and I haven't used a
custom Xquartz since ~10.5.1).
