xinitrc problems

hello

I've re-installed the Tiger X11 on my MacBook Pro running Leopard,
following Ben Byer's instructions posted under:

easier instructions to install Tiger X11.app

But my .xinitrc still does not seem to be run - in particular it
sets much larger fonts and a background color.

Any help would be appreciated as I rely on X11
