I had forgotten about the "-nojvm" option, which does allow you to
run a command-line version of Matlab on a Mac and have the display
on a remote machine. It doesn't provide the nice GUI with the
editor, variable list, command history, etc., but it does run.
I just checked it by logging in from my MacBookPro to my PowerMac
with "ssh -Y server.name" and running Matlab with "/Applications/
MATLAB74/bin/matlab -nojvm". This is all on Tiger, so I can't
verify that it still works on Leopard.
Okay, I'm sure I tried this without success but can you confirm it
works for you irrelevant of whether you have (or not) run MATLAB and/
or X11 (or have either/both) currently loaded/running? When I was
trying I had to kill X11 manually (from activity monitor) and so may
put myself in an unusual situation...
Thanks, Michael
