That is truly bizarre. That /tmp/launch-... must come from somewhere, after all. Can you run
printenv | grep /tmp/launch
on the remote machine? Does it produce anything?
Nothing. The file /tmp/launch-... is on my local machine. It must be being passed by ssh. (After a few tries, they are accumulating on my local machine - a MacBook Pro, incidentally.)
