Two things:
1. I did submit a radar: https://bugreport.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/RadarWeb.woa/75/wo/KnDLOJ0OITktVgE0wL8XV0/11.27.11.0
2. As noted in the radar, I've discovered that if I set TERM=xterm-color and
use the 'clear' command before starting/removing the editor (vim/less) the
problem goes away. I'm not an expert, but I wonder if this is really an
issue with ncurses in Leopard?
