Dear Jeremy:

Here's a new one: I repaired permissions (takes way too long under Leopard) and then tried to start X11 directly. Here is the log that resulted from this. I hope it helps.

9/17/08 11:30:36 AM [0x0-0x38038].org.x.X11[644] X11.app: main(): argc=2
9/17/08 11:30:36 AM [0x0-0x38038].org.x.X11[644] argv[0] = / Applications/Utilities/X11.app/Contents/MacOS/X11
9/17/08 11:30:36 AM [0x0-0x38038].org.x.X11[644] argv[1] = - psn_0_229432
9/17/08 11:30:36 AM [0x0-0x38038].org.x.X11[644] Waiting for startup parameters via Mach IPC.

?? What is Mach IPC?

Going back to an earlier revision of the OS is painful, but it seems to be the only thing left I can do if I am to do my work (IDL is necessary).
