Sadly I can't find the Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 in one of your favourite stores but this would be my last MS Mouse recommendation. I currently use this one on my main Mac and it just works. Same as above, if you don't need a driver the scroll wheel is your third mouse button, otherwise you can customize every button via the Intellipoint driver.

Second! Some of the newer Microsoft "Laser Mice" are also good (but pricey). A lot depends on whether you like a "clicky" scroll wheel (with detents) or a smooth one. IIRC, the wired versions had detents, and the wireless versions had smooth wheels.

On Windows, I really liked having the detents, since I preferred to scroll page-at-a-time. On Mac, I've become used to the "acceleration scroll" on the Mighty Mouse, and so now I'd probably go for a smooth-wheel version.

My favorite mouse, ergonomics-wise, is the Logitech G5; it's light (but you can add weight if you want), it's responsive, and the cord doesn't do that annoying snag-on-the-desk thing that most mouse cords do. But the buggy-even-when-they-work Logitech drivers don't even support that mouse on the Mac.

I do NOT recommend the Mighty Mouse. Yes it's an Apple product, so it's the easiest to get working with the Mac. But if you're tired of cleaning gunk out of mouse balls, you'll be even more tired of trying to clean the Mighty Mouse's scroll ball. Apple took a giant step back to the 1990s with that; it's mechanical, not optical, and you have to open the mouse (and void the warranty) to clean it properly - which it'll need about every two weeks, until it's 2-3 months old, at which point you'll need to throw it out and buy a replacement.

Whatever mouse you get, you may want to check into some third-party drivers that let you have more precise, per-application control:
