I would have liked to try a Logitech, but heeded your warnings about bad drivers. I needed a mouse that Just Works. I'm really surprised a company like Logitech doesn't actually have the best Mac support in the business - how hard can it be to write a mouse driver?

Logitech doesn't really care about Macs. I have their Harmony universal remote and its programming software for Mac is really buggy. (That said, I also have their laptop mouse with tiltable scroll wheel, and its driver seems to work fine.)
