Granted, I'm running an old version (Xquartz 2.2.1), but it sure

Yes, it'll run xrdb, but on my systems, the system xinitrc at the path
above ends with
twm &
xclock -geometry 50x50-1+1 &
xterm -geometry 80x50+494+51 &
xterm -geometry 80x20+494-0 &
exec xterm -geometry 80x66+0+0 -name login
I don't want *any* of that stuff to run! Are these lines still
present in
release 2.3.1?
Those are present in the system xinitrc as they are on all unices...
but they are a fallback. In other words, they don't get run.
Of course, this begs the question of whether my initialization setup
is
somehow broken. Rather than create an .xinitrc, I instead used the
`default' command to set the app_to_run preference, as suggested on
<http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/wiki/X11-UsersFAQ>. Yes, I have
to run
xrdb in the script I run via that preference, but otherwise it works
fine
for me. (I'm perfectly happy with the built-in quartz window
manager.)
Well if you don't have a ~/.xinitrc, then the system's /usr/X11/lib/
X11/xinit/xinitrc *IS* getting run.
The app_to_run is just that... and "extra" application that gets
launched (so people have the backwards-compatible appearance of xterm
running when you start X11.app).
And yes, I know 2.3.1 is out, but I don't want to upgrade just yet
because
2.2.1 works fine for me, and I don't want to take on the risk of a
broken
upgrade right now.
Well atleast update to 2.2.3, so you get the security fixes. That's
the only thing changed in 2.2.2 and 2.2.3.
